The electrochemical character of a protein is affected very little by these two groups. Of importance, however, are the numerous positively charged ammonium groups (\u2015NH<sub>3<\/sub><sup>+<\/sup>) of lysine and arginine and the negatively charged carboxyl groups (\u2015COO<sup>\u2212<\/sup>) of\u00a0aspartic acid\u00a0and glutamic acid.
