Cafe de Olla (Mexican Coffee)

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons ground coffee (medium to dark roast)
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 2-3 slices of dried orange peel (optional)
  • 1 small piece of piloncillo (or 1 tablespoon brown sugar)

Method:

  1. In a medium saucepan, add the water, cinnamon stick, and piloncillo (or brown sugar). Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add the coffee grounds and continue to simmer for 5-7 minutes, letting the coffee steep and absorb the spices.
  3. Remove from heat and strain the coffee into mugs.
  4. Serve hot, optionally garnished with more cinnamon or a slice of orange.
