Turmeric Yellow Basmati rice

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Cups Basmati Rice
  • 2 Tablespoons Canola or Vegetable Oil
  • 2 Teaspoons Sea Salt
  • 2 Teaspoons Turmeric
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Curry Powder
  • 2 Bay Leaves
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 2 Cardamom Pods
  • 1 Tablespoon Chicken or Vegetable Bouillon
  • 3 1/2 Cups Water

DIRECTIONS

  • Soak the rice for 10-15 minutes, then rinse a couple of times until the water is clear. Drain well.
  • Heat the oil in a medium cooking pot over medium-high heat. Add the rinsed rice and stir until lightly toasted for 2 minutes.
  • Add the salt, black pepper, Turmeric, curry, chicken or vegetable bouillon, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, and cardamom pods. Stir until the rice is evenly coated with the spices, and stir for 2 minutes, lightly toasting the rice and spices.
  • Add the water, and occasionally stir to prevent sticking to the pot. Bring it to a boil, and reduce the heat to low. Cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  • Once the rice is fully cooked, turn off the heat and leave the rice “covered” to rest for 10 minutes. Fluff it using a fork and serve.
